The Cambridge Dancers' Club organises dance classes and events in Cambridge for over 1400 members, many of whom are students at Cambridge University, ARU or the language schools. However, it also has a growing number of dancers who work or live in Cambridge.
There are usually about 30-40 different classes during the 8-week terms, including ballroom (modern), Latin, Salsa and Rock-and-Roll, with levels from Beginners to Advanced. Ballroom and Latin classes are available as dancesport classes, with an emphasis on technique, or general dancing, where the focus is more on steps.
The teachers are friendly and of very high standards, including Bruce Lait - ex-UK 10-dance champion. The Cambridge University Dancesport Team (part of CDC) is regularly the top UK university team, thanks to team coaches David Mallabone, Bruce Lait, and Paul Walker.
The club puts on many events during the year, including Christmas, Spring, and Summer Balls (usually in the St. Ivo Centre, St. Ives, Cambs), regular Tea Dances, occasional Dinner dances (in a Cambridge College), competitions, and the free General Dancing on Friday evenings at the University Centre, Mill Lane, Cambridge.
